Subject: Free Flow on the go!
It's that time again! I am on the move once more. This time I am heading back to Toronto on Feb. 11th by train. I am due in on the night of the 12th. I will be staying in Toronto for a while so I will get a chance to see a lot of you this time around.
I have successfully finished my work term at EGADZ drop in center. I must say that I am going to miss those kids! I think the program was a great success all the way around. I am almost finished my grant follow-up report and then that is that. I ended the program with a bang! I had an informal showing of "Puppets" at the center last Friday night and all the kids at the center were invited as well as family and friends of the dancers. The performance went extremely well and was a great way for us to test out our work in an informal setting before the Hericane Caroline festival this March. The audience members gave us a lot of constructive feed back as well! Thanks to Dance Saskatchewan Inc. for making this possible!
For those of you in Saskatoon the show is on Tues. March 6th at 8:30pm at the St. John's Cathedral on Spadina Cres. E. The fee is $5 adults and $4 student/senior.
Here is a quick update on the fringe situation. So far Free Flow has been accepted in the following festivals: Ottawa, Toronto and Saskatoon. The application for Winnipeg is coming up shortly.
As an added bonus I will be teaching at the Bruno Saskatchewan Summer Steps Dance Camp for a week after the Saskatoon fringe. I will be running classes in Contemporary Modern dance and Choreographic Development. The "Puppets" dancers will join me in the performances in Saskatoon for the fringe, which will elongate the show.
On a sad note... Free Flow did not get chosen in the lottery to perform at the Edmonton Fringe Festival this summer. I do hope to be able to coordinate some workshops and performances out in the west during the later part of the summer and early fall.
During my last month here in Saskatoon I spent most of my days working as a guest instructor at many local schools. I was very fortunate to have taught students from Kindergarten to grade 12 in 7 different schools. I also had the pleasure of guest instructing for the recreational modern dance course at the University of Saskatchewan.
Well that is about it on my end for now. Thanks to you all for helping out, giving support and writing me a lot of letters during my stay out in the prairies during the winter months! It is always great to hear from friends when you are far from home. I guess I do have some gypsy blood coursing through my veins.
Always keep in touch!
