Free Flow Update January 2003
I am now getting settled into my new place in Saskatoon and just got my Internet hooked up. It was a whirlwind of a holiday trip back to Ontario but so worth while! I managed to spend a week out at my parents log home, which my mother had decorated splendidly (Dad and I went tree hunting and snagged ourselves a real wild one!)and a couple of days at my sister's place as well. It was nice to see everyone including the infamous barfing cat of mine Aslan AKA Bouffon or Mr. Stinky. Of course I was completely spoiled by everyone as I was in the UK last Christmas and unable to go home for the holidays. I guess I was missed!
After the family events I returned to Toronto and managed to see Nicole Fougere's show Snakes in My Belly, which was fabulous! For those of you who don't know, Nicole was one of the original Free Flow members back in the Kitchener /Waterloo days! Keep your eyes open for future works of hers! I also went to see Contact with my sister at the Canon Theatre. This show was a lot of fun and fairly frivolous. The best part was going out to eat at the Marche with Lou afterwards!!!!!
After a week of pretty much solid partying and clubbing (gotta get it in when you can right?) I settled down to some serious planning for the Moulin Rouge New Year Bash. There were a few panic attacks along the way but wow did everyone get it together for the event! We managed to set the show and rehearse it in one day of epic proportions! (yay Mo for letting us use his space even tho he was away!) I have to thank the performers: Martin Posen, Sheila Muir, Mo Moore, Brian Kennedy, Lou Latendresse, Ari Bacalo, Dave Strutt, and especially the Can Can girls(who were an absolute hit!) Melanie, Naomi, Arijanna, Linda, Carolyn (and me!) I would also like to thank Lou, Mo, Eric, Lil Evil Jacque and Bert for being awesome bearers of beverages, and John and Julia for working the door! You are all amazing and generous people and I couldn't have done it without you. I would also like to thank Paul Barber, Jim and Daf Summers for their ongoing financial support of Free Flow Dance through all of its changes!
Plenty of digital photos were taken at the event and some can be found on our site in the photo category www.freeflowdance.com. Thanks to Alan Page for snapping pics and updating and managing my web site. There will also be links to more photos by Moses Moore and a page set up by Peter Timofejew added soon. If you have any great shots you would like me to include please send me the info !!!!
The Moulin Rouge was an event to be remembered from top hats to garters! Everyone seemed to make a special effort to dress up and there were suits and Can Can girls galore! The actual show went wonderfully well and featured highlights include of course the Can Can (the dresses weighed a ton and we could hardly breathe but it is amazing what adrenaline can do!), Ari and Dave's campy and loveable version of the Elephant Love Medley, the very talented guests Martin Posen (guitarist) and Sheila Muir (contemporary dance), Mo and Brian belting it out to the live Lou version of the Tango de Roxanne (Lou transposed this music to a piano version by hand from listening to the song on the sound track 5 million times...) and the outlandishly Bollywood inspired Hindi Diamonds Burlesque. All in all by the time midnight came everyone was in a sassy mood! Thanks to Peter Timofejew for allowing us to use his warehouse space for the event!!
The funds raised from the Moulin Rouge event go towards a new project called the W.I.P. Series (works in progress) which will feature new works by contemporary dance artists in Saskatchewan 4 times per year in Saskatoon. Performances will feature 4-5 choreographers and will be open to the public for a small fee. The audience will meet the choreographers and be asked to give written feedback on their impressions of each piece. These comments will later be distributed to the choreographers to help them further develop their work. I have received a small start up grant from Dance Saskatchewan Inc. to get this project started and the fundraiser will continue to support this program. If you are interested in making a financial donation to help support the W.I.P. Series please contact me! This is a one of a kind project out here in the Prairies and is much needed!

As for now I am just plain happy to have an apartment! I haven't had one of my own since I let the studio go in November of 1999! Whew has it been that long? I guess I should thank all of those people whose couches I crashed on along the way!!! There are so many of you but I am sure you know who you are! You are all welcome to come and crash on mine (as soon as I get one) whenever you like! I have however just bought a bed!!! Yay! No more camping out on the floor! I also have a knife and a fork and a spoon and a few plates so I feel like this is starting to become a "REAL" home! Getting letters instead of bills always rocks my world so for your writing pleasure here is my new mailing address.
