Well it is that time once again... I am tucked away in Saskatoon working with Dance Saskatchewan and getting to work on my newest project.
This summer I will be touring across Canada again for the 4th annual Free Flow Adventure. The new show is called “3” and is a one-woman show designed for myself in celebration of my 30th birthday. The show is based on Triple Goddess Mythology specifically focusing on the Demeter, Persephone, Hecate trio. The show will involve not only dance but also mask and puppet work.
As you all know the costs to do this tour are quite high. The entrance Fee deadlines are already coming quickly. The first few are due starting in December 2000. The total amount I need to raise for entrance fees alone is approximately $3000.00. The cities I plan to include on this years tour are: Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Edmonton. There is a possibility of the West coast cities as well.
As I am not in Toronto this year I am having difficulty in hosting fundraising events and so I am sending out this request for patronage from you, Free Flow's regular supporters. I will be hosting some kind of event in February 2001 in Toronto. Details are yet to be released.
Donations of any size are welcome. If you would like to sponsor a Specific Festival please feel free to contact me and I will let you know what the fee for that city is.
Thank you to Daphne Summers and Mackenzie Gray for their recent donations! A special thank you to Nicola and Steve Herz for the loan of a lap top computer for next years tour! This will make life on the road just a little bit easier!
Free Flow would like to take this time to say thanks to all of you who Have supported us in the past and continue to do so through donations and performance attendance. We simply could not have made it this far Without you!
Please feel free to send me an email if you want more information or if You just want to drop me a note!
I am writing to let you all know how things are going here in Saskatoon so far. Well I am well into the dance project "Youth Dance" at EGADZ the drop in Center for street youths. I am currently teaching 2 classes per week there. One is a Modern and Creative dance class and the other is an exercise class. It is going slowly but well. The group has gone with me to see a show called The Next Step, which was A tap dance performance. We all had a great time and I was quite Impressed with the showmanship, staging and lighting effects and the amount of talent in the company (Brian Follie)
The newest project I have is is quite exciting and just getting underway. I am choreographing and producing a show for a women's festival here in Saskatoon this March. It is called Her-icane Caroline and is designed to feature Saskatchewan female artists. I will be working with some of the local dancers on this, which should be a lot of fun. Dance Saskatchewan has kindly sponsored this project and we would like to extend our greatest thanks to them.I am also applying for a power-performance in Chicago for this April. It is a women's festival that is showcasing work about female super heroines!!! This festival was just built for The Adventures of Izzy Scorpio, the fringe show I toured Canada with in 1999. Holly Treddenick will be dancing Izzy again however I am still looking for a "Shadow Creature" In case I can't be there myself.
I have started working on “3” and am off to a good start. I will be Needing some help with costumes and mask building so if you have any talents in these areas that you would like to share please feel free to let me know. Lucy Rupert is currently working on some music for the new production and I am extremely pleased to be working with her again.
I will be performing a new work for the Dare to Dance Fundraiser Gala on November 4th in Yorkton Saskatchewan. It is currently in progress but is coming along rapidly, so now I must rehearse and rehearse and rehearse! I will also be working as the Assistant Stage Manager for the performance in Saskatoon on November 18th.
I have secured two teaching jobs this Nov. I will be teaching Modern Dance at the University of Regina and at the Conservatory of Dance and Music in Regina. I am also negotiating contracts with several local dance studios and the University of Saskatchewan.
I am still fundraising for the upcoming Canadian Fringe festival Tour 2001 and would like to send a big THANK YOU to Alan Page, one of our biggest supporters, for offering to sponsor the application fees for the Toronto Fringe Festival 2001! Thank you Alan! We still have over $2000.00 left to raise for entrance fees and are accepting donations of all sizes.
So far the weather has held up here in Saskatoon. I did gratefully Receive my parka and long johns on the bus (sent by my wonderful parents!) I am sure I am going to appreciate them a lot when it is 40 below!
I haven't had much time to socialize since I have been here but I was nicely surprised when I ran into Shannon from Torch River and we went out for a night to dance and have a few beers. It is great to hear from everyone from back home and those of you who I met on the Fringe. I can't tell you how nice it feels to have so many friends and supporters. Although I don't know many people here in Saskatoon, it doesn't really seem that way when I get your notes.
Keep in touch,
