International Dance Day Performance 2017!

Call for performers of all dance styles and genres!

Free Flow Dance Theatre is hosting an International Dance Day Celebration Performance at the Free Flow Dance Centre, 224 25 th St. W. Saskatoon, on Saturday April 29 th at 7pm.

We invite you to be a part of the world wide celebration of DANCE! All emerging-professional and professional dance groups or soloists are welcome to participate in this performance opportunity! Please email Jackie Latendresse as soon as possible at freeflowdance@hotmail.com to express your interest. You should include your contact name, phone number and email address as well as your form/style of dance. All acts should be between 4-7 minutes in length. Honorariums are available this year.We are looking forward to another fantastic show this year!

Artistic Director - Free Flow Dance Theatre

ATTENTION PROFESSIONAL DANCERS! WE ARE HIRING!
Salary Dancer Offer 2017 Base salary $3500
Understudy Dancer Offer 2017 Unpaid training opportunity for emerging artist age 16+ with potential paid opportunities.

Time period: 28 weeks - see attached schedule of dates below.
Approximately 6 hours per week of rehearsal. Plus extra hours for tech and performances, special events/fund raisers.

Dancers must be age 18+ and working at an advanced level in modern/contemporary dance and ballet.

Extras/Perks for Salary and unpaid positions

* For Salary Dancers only
  1. * Free Dance classes: Tues 6:30-7:15pm Conditioning class, Wed 5:45 - 6:15pm Floor Barre, Wed 6:30 - 8pm Modern Dance. (50% discount for Understudies.)
  2. Up to a total of 10 hours of free dance studio use during off or unrented hours. Additional hours can be rented at the $10 per hour discounted rate during day time hours. The space is to be used for personal professional training use or choreography development for showings with Free Flow only. This is not free space to run classes or jam sessions with friends.
  3. * 1st choice on all teaching dates and times for the community workshop program. Extra payment of $100 per workshop. We plan to teach 30 workshops this season. Fees are paid out twice during the program including at the half-way point and the end. Fees include all prep and traveling time. (2nd choice to Understudies)
  4. Access to the new body workers program (massage physio etc) - we are still working on this but hope to have it up and running this spring.
  5. Option to present your own work/choreography through the Free Flow Dance Theatre Company’s shows.
  6. 1st Choice on any volunteering positions available at the Free Flow Dance Centre.
  7. Preference will be given to our contracted dancers should more than one group want to rent the studio space for a special event, workshop or class whenever possible.
  8. Preference will be given to contracted dancers for extra performance spots that come up with the Rosebuds, The W.I.P. Series or other variety type events at the dance centre. Additional fees will be negotiated for you.
  9. Ability to participate in voting for the board of directors of Free Flow Dance Theatre Company
  10. Annual dancer retreat - we hope to take you to Manitou Springs again this season to float in the pool and soak in the healing waters.

Schedule of dates - working weeks
  • Feb 27-March 25 - 4 weeks
  • April 3-30 - 4 weeks - 1st pay period
  • May 8-June 18 - 6 weeks
  • June 26-July 23 - 4 weeks 2nd pay period
  • Sept 4-Oct 15 - 6 weeks
  • Oct 23-Nov 20 - 4 weeks 3rd pay period
Please note that these are approximate dates as sometimes extra performance opportunities arise throughout the year or theatres are not available for the dates that we request etc. We will endeavour to create schedules with dancer input as per usual.

Schedule details rehearsal hours and classes
Ideally we would like to schedule a 30 min warm up or mini class followed by a 1.5 hour working period 3X per week. Preference to daytime week day hours.
Class schedule - No fees - we require our dancers to train regularly.
Tuesdays 6:30-7:15pm Conditioning class
Wednesdays 5:45-6:15pm Floor Barre and 6:30-8pm Modern Dance

Body Workers needed for New Program
Jackie Latendresse the artistic director of the Saskatoon based professional contemporary dance company (www.freeflowdance.com) is seeking body workers to participate in a new program. Free Flow is a charitable not for profit org and is currently compiling a list of body workers, massage, physio, osteo etc who live in Saskatoon who may be interested in working with professional dancers with the Free Flow Dance Theatre Company for a couple of hours every 3-4 months.
The company is putting together an opportunity which can provide therapists with tax deductible receipts for in kind contributions. Fundraising Coordinator Position - Free Flow Dance Theatre
Free Flow Dance Theatre is a not for profit charitable organization. The company is seeking a fundraising coordinator to help out with its events and performances throughout the year. This position is perfect for someone who is passionate about the arts and looking for volunteer experience that is meaningful and fun. An ideal fundraising coordinator should have the following skills:
* Works well with others and the public.
* Is fluent in spoken and written English
* Has time and energy to spend developing relationships with potential donors and attending events to build these relationships and spread the word about Free Flow Dance Theatre
* Is self-motivated and driven.
* Enjoys working with dancers and other artists.
* Is a good problem solver.
* Has basic conflict/resolution skills.
* Has a flexible schedule and is available on evenings and weekends
* Good organizational skills.
The fundraising coordinator will work closely with other Free Flow Dance Theatre staff and volunteers to organize fundraising events for the organization. They will also be asked to attend community events throughout the year to represent Free Flow Dance Theatre and build relationships with other community organizations and philanthropists.

We endeavor to provide perks for our volunteers whenever possible such as free entrance to performances and events, swag bags and host an annual Volunteer appreciation party. This position is perfect for someone who is passionate about the arts and looking for volunteer experience that is meaningful and fun.

An ideal Volunteer coordinator should have the following skills:

  • Is good with creating and working with schedules

  • Good organizational skills.

  • Has a drivers licence and vehicle.

  • Works well with others and the public.

  • Is fluent in spoken and written English

  • Is good at team building.

  • Has a basic understanding of how fund raisers and performances are run.

  • Has time and energy to spend recruiting volunteers and finding the correct volunteer position for each candidate.

  • Is self-motivated and driven.

  • Enjoys working with dancers and other artists.

  • Is a good problem solver.

  • Has basic conflict/resolution skills.

  • Has a flexible schedule and is available on evenings and weekends.

The Volunteer coordinator will help to recruit volunteers for the following types of positions:

  • Concession or bartending

  • Food preparation

  • Door sales/ticketed events or by donation

  • Merchandise sales

  • Set up and clean up

  • Graphic design

  • Poster distribution

  • Marketing and publicity help

  • Back stage helpers

  • Costume and set design help
  • Computer and tech support
  • Drivers with a large vehicle or trunk for shopping trips and transporting items/span>
  • Other roles as they arise./span>

Free Flow Dance Theatre sets their event and performance schedule for the entire season (Jan 1- Dec 31) well in advance so most dates are announced very early. We do occasionally have extra events that come up and we will notify the volunteer coordinator as soon as the information becomes available.
