Dancing across the universe

Dancer Feature: Mitchell Larsen!

Mitchell is a multidisciplinary artist who grew up across Saskatchewan. They have danced with Free Flow off and on since 2015. Mitchell’s work tends to focus on the creation and sharing of new works using music, movement and words.

Having originally trained in theatre arts at Grant MacEwan University, they also work as an actor, including performing in Unmasked, September 10-19, 2021. Unmasked is a multidisciplinary show about a young woman’s experiences with psychosis, co-produced by Yin Yang Theatre and La Troupe de Jour.

Throughout their career they have supported their work with multiple additional jobs including movie theatre worker, line cook, model, instructor, standardized patient, and program coordinator.

Currently they are grateful to work almost entirely as an artist and enjoy teaching arts as well. They look forward to joining the faculty at Roadways Literacy Studio in the fall of 2021 as a supplementary arts educator.

They are also excited to be a part of Persephone’s Theatre for Young Audiences Playwriting Unit, creating a play currently entitled: Ethereal. The piece explores what it means to be alive, through a queer romance with a ghost, a mysterious and sinister game, and a fleeting friendship. They are also currently developing a play entitled Antorcha with their collaborator, Lautaro Reyes, that delves into fragile nature of self and certainty with mannequins, murder, and music.

Mitchell lives with their husband and two cats, Ambrose and Bertrand, in Saskatoon and outside of work enjoys gardening, kayaking, reading, spending time with family and friends, and playing RPGs
