BrainDance; reminders of playfully moving from our early years – Jennifer Nikolai
This adaptive, inclusive workshop integrates research in dance and theatre pedagogy linked to the brain and healthy lifespan development. With an emphasis on mindfulness through self-awareness, the workshop progresses through self and shared awareness, partner-work and regulation of self with others, applying dance improvisation elements. The facilitator applies research-based and shared findings from theme and variation adaptations of BrainDance (Green Gilbert). Gilbert’s (2018) Brain-Compatible Dance Education methodology is a sequential, holistic alignment of the body, an approach aimed at involving numerous parts of the brain supportively, offering meaningful movement opportunities. Participants will experience BrainDance variations with a focus on the application of breath, and eight fundamental movement patterns and progressions that build from self-awareness to collaboration. We will workshop ways in which movement can be used to bring mindfulness connection, insight into elements of play and joy and support self-regulation through calming the brain-body reciprocal relationship.
