Red River Jigging with Scott Duffy

Friday, April 19, 2024 at 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Free Flow Dance Theatre and Artist in Residence Bruce Sinclair present a fun Friday night with Red River Jigger Scott Duffy. Everyone is welcome!
Scott Duffee teaches the Red River Jig as often as he can, for fun, exercise, connecting to community and Spirit, and for over-all well-being. The interconnection between dance traditions and modern renditions is a special area of interest and exploration. Scott’s mentors have been generous in sharing fiddling, jigging, visiting, sash weaving, stories, and connection as a base for creative expression, and he hopes to pass this on to anyone who can benefit from it. Scott enjoys woodworking, general labor, and vitalizing folk arts and skills with modern relevance. Having good visits is a priority for Scott in all his endeavors. Well-being, enjoyment, and connecting in a good way are the purpose and endeavor at hand. Scott was a Metis Nation-Saskatchewan citizen for many years, with Metis ancestry from the Red River Settlement. Scott has a Bachelor of Indigenous SocialWork degree (1999) and has been sharing cultural aspects such as jigging and weaving for over two decades, having recently had the opportunity to author the book titled ‘The Red River Jig’, thanks to the support of the Gabriel Dumont Institute.
Red River Jigging Class – Description Red River Jigclass instruction covers some basic movements associated with this style of dance, eventually combining the movements to produce the full step. Basic movements include subtle hops, snappy kicks, scuffs, and shifts from one foot to the other. Footwear with less grip on the soles is best.
Please note NO OUTDOOR SHOES allowed!
Thanks to Sask Culture for their support of this event.
